While I was growing up, most of my friends were male. I only talk to 3 of them today.
They either/or:
:hit on me and our friendship suffered
:didn't approve of who I was dating and stopped conversing
:never hit on me and stayed friends
(never hit on me doesn't mean that they didn't express that they didn't think of it)
:we did date and still remained friends
So it depends on the stability of the friendship!
