It's hard to be a single parent...

Posted 24-04-08 at 12:56 AM by littleguru
I had to take down my youngest son last weekend. He thru a punch at me and I blocked it. Got a huge bruise on my forearm and wrist from it. I got him under control, then told him we needed a timeout. He needed to sit and think about what he just did and why as I took the parent timeout and walked around the block. As I returned, he met me on the front porch steps and hugged the stuffings out of me and said he was sorry. I apologized also but he had to learn that a son doesn't treat his mother that way.

He was mad at his brother mostly and had really bad day at school. After we talked, he said he was afraid I would decide not to return from the walk. This comes from a dad that doesn't contact the boys ever since the divorce.

I told my son, "You can't get rid of me that easily! I love you too much!

Well, today everything is okay. We have decided to do more things together. Like dye our hair! He's going from dishwater blonde to black. I from dark brown and gray to reddish brown. (ha ha!)

You can never win in the child vs parent war. They have their idea of what's right and we have ours. Personally I don't know how you managed to keep yr cool when he swung at you, much as I love my daughter if she ever raised her hand to me I'd put her on her arse so hard she wouldn't try again. Luckily (or not for my ears) she's never gone for attacking, she just screams and shouts (actually sometimes thats worse.lol) followed by the inevitable "you try living my life, you wouldn't cope" then silence (the best part.lol) all followed by loads of hugs and sorry's. Luckily you managed to difuse the situation and took time out for him to think about it then talked it over. good for you hun.x
