Question We need more homes - why isn't it happening?

England especially the South East has become over-run as a result of mass immigration. There's a desperate shortage of houses to provide homes not only for these new individuals but also the children who have grown up and want to leave home and get their own place - but they can't because the shortage of property has pushed rents and mortgages sky high.

Salaries do not reflect what outgoings are now necessary to enable people to pay rent/mortgage, council tax and essential utility bills let alone have enough for food, clothing, travel costs to work etc. So many of our children are still living at home in their late 20s.

It's been said to balance what housing requirements are needed now - would necessitate building at least 4-6 cities the size of Manchester. But we have another problem - the protection of the 'green belt'. Whilst we need to protect our countryside, we have to be realistic here and understand that we just cannot continue to 'in-build' and overcrowd existing towns and cities as the infrastructure simply cannot support all these additional individuals.

What are your comments? Do you have any suggestions as to how to sort this sorry mess out so that everyone can have a decent standard of living and a home?
