War (Why?)

War does not appeal to me
It is so full of hatred you see
It just results in loss of lives
And all you get is weeping wives

Children left without their dads
And mothers left without their lads
Countryside ruined by explosions
People left with shattered emotions

"And when will all this end," I say
It certainly will not be today
Maybe not even for a year
It's for the human nature that I fear

If this fighting carries on
There'll be a time when everything's gone
No kindness, compassion, love or cheer
It's for all of this we have to fear

War is in the papers and on the news
With everyone giving their own views
But they're the ones enjoying it
We don't hear about the ones hardest hit

And when it ends, what will be left?
Thousands of people all bereft
And after effects for many more
Too troubled to go on as before

We can't change what others do
But we don't have to do it too
We should show them how to behave
Then maybe human nature can be saved
