As I've 'chosen' to leave this board as a regular contributing member I can now freely express my opinion on this subject.

I agree with not exchanging email/msn addresses via the chat room as you have no idea who you're talking to.

However, what I strongly disagree with is WoC not allowing members on the forum board to PM each other on the Board.

Everyone keeps shouting the odds as to the fact we're adults here but in fact we're being treated like children.

I feel the facility should be available. It's insulting that members on the forum board are being treated like children. Surely the choice to exchange details if one wishes to continue a friendship outside of WoC is THEIR choice, NOT WoC dictating and insisting that folk can ONLY discuss stuff openly for everyone to see using the excuse of 'safety' - bollocks - you just don't want to risk losing members. That's a shabby reason.

I could understand if the members here were under 18. Come on WoC people of that age can join the armed forces fight/kill for their country, get married, drive a car and goodness knows what else BUT being a member here and then NOT allowing them to PM on a forum board is really insulting to their intellingence and adult status.

It is not WoCs sole responsibility to control what people choose to do on the internet. Its their life, their choice. If people are happy to give out their email addresses so be it - they're 18 plus - they're adults ffs.

This is where I feel this board is missing something - the trust and the freedom to allow folk to PM one another if they so wish. We are all suffering the effects of our 'nanny state' now here we have a 'nanny forum board' and threatening to bann folk for simply wanting to PM another member with their email address is pathetic.

So no, I don't agree with your ruling on this one, never did and never will.

I chose to leave this board as a regular contributing member recently and wanted very much to remain in touch with a couple of members but because of the inability to PM my details to these people I cannot. I don't care how 'arse licky' others have been in agreeing with every word you said on this - they would because you're the Boss. But someone needs to openly state NO this isn't right. Not on the forum board. Forums boards are designed to allow folk to chat as a community AND with each other. Bring back the PM facility and give folk a bit of slack. Arguments also wouldn't occur openly on the board either but could be conducted in the privacy between the two people concerned via PMs.

We used to have the PM function before and it was abused really badly by people touting for addys and sex. If we were allowed to swop details like addys then i reckon woc wuld just turn into another crappy chatroom like all the rest. I feel safe in here knowing ppl aint throwing their addys about cos at the end of the day you dont know the real person behind a keyboard and when you hear some of the horror stories etc regarding ppl meeting in rooms then I just wouldnt want to be involved in anything like that. I do appreciate some ppl aint like that but there are plenty who are

At the end of the day people read the rules b4 they join and if they dont like the no contact details part then they shuldnt join and find somewhere else that suits their needs better and swop details til their hearts content and the cows come home

I respect your opinion. But the couple of times I have been a member here I have never come across any problems you describe, neither have the folk I've been friends with.

I'll reiterate - I'm not talking about the chatrooms - I'm talking about allowing PMing here on the actual forum board itself with no outside access other than between members here on the forum.

Again, I will say that if folk don't want to reply to PM requests for email addresses or whatever - then they don't have to reply - it's as simple as that. If people do - then it's their responsibility their choice they are adults after all.

And actually, no-one is safe anywhere on the net - even here. All members IP addresses are logged - so already someone else knows how you can be traced. There are hackers who can get into anything and if someone is that determined to track a member down in the RW then they will.

Still as you say - these are the rules on this one particular forum board.

As we're still allowed a certain degree of freedom of speech in this country I felt I am permitted to state why I disagree with one of the rules.

I have also noted over this last year that quite a few members have left due to the frustration of not being allowed to PM one another.

And yes you're right - if folk don't like it then they can go elsewhere - and they are - just like I have chosen to do and have found a wonderful forum where I can chat happily as part of the whole community or simply on a one to one basis. I've never in all my years on the internet found such a friendly site - its members come from all over the world and all age groups. There is no arguing, pettiness etc. AND they have P3tz as well !!!

Give DarkFallenAngel my love when you see her - that's one lovely lady I would have dearly wished to remain in touch with.

We’ve had nothing but complaints about u so we are very pleased u have found a new forum, so go and annoy them and leave us alone.
