Well, the end of the world is not something I think about often. If global disaster strikes, I don’t think that some extra food items will allow us to survive.
But, it doesn’t mean we can’t be prepared, especially for our own peace of mind.
So how to survive? Personally, I would grow lots of butternut squash, beans, peas, potatoes, carrots, kale, Brussels sprouts, and pumpkins.
Why you ask?
Butternut squash and pumpkins can be kept at room temperature and they last for months.
Peas and beans can be dried and eaten year round.
Brussels sprouts and kale are extremely hardly. They will survive several hard frosts so you will have food long past the frost.
Carrots and potatoes can stay in the ground and they will be good year round (although rabbits or other critters could eventually get to them).
Much depends on the climate though. I am in Upstate New York and it sure gets cold here in wintertime! Our growing season is quite short.
Yep, this would be my survival kit, a few packages of seeds.
