It happened in early October 1992 (Yup I’m really that old). I was in a hotel room in Las Vegas and I was on the phone with KLM airlines, booking a flight to Amsterdam, Netherlands. As we were going over the details, suddenly a horrible feeling of forbearing overcame me. The feeling was so strong that I decided to not take a flight to Amsterdam right away. I’d stay in Las Vegas a little longer, and I told the KLM person that I had changed my mind.
I later found out that at the very moment I was on the phone with KLM to book my flight to Schiphol Amsterdam International airport, literally that very moment, a plane crashed into an apartment building after it had just taken off from Schiphol. To this day it is considered the worst aviation disaster in the Netherlands. At least 47 people died but the exact number is unknown since the apartment building housed many unregistered tenants.
